    Clinical & Radiographic Evaluation of Short Dental Implants in Posterior Atrophic Ridges with a Follow-up Period of 1 Year after Loading: A Controlled Clinical Trial

    Implant dentistry is becoming more popular as a treatment modality especially with the emergence of newer and improved implantation technologies. Much of these improvements can be attributed to the relatively high success rates of implants in both partially and completely edentulous patients. In patients with long-standing edentulous arches, alveolar bone resorption (Both vertical and horizontal or combined defects) is frequently observed. The insertion of dental implants in patients with reduced alveolar bone height is challenging and may require additional invasive bone augmentation procedures.

    Tooth loss as a result of trauma or congenital absence presents a major problem in young individuals. It causes functional impairment in addition to psychological disturbances. Missing teeth in youth has been reported to have a negative impact on individuals’ own emotional condition, social relations, and speech, smiling and overall performance. Oral rehabilitation is mandatory in such cases even before reaching complete skeletal and dental maturation. Removable partial denture has been considered as the first treatment option in such conditions due to the ease of construction and relatively lower cost. Certain drawbacks such as high caries incidence, periodontal problems, and increased residual alveolar bone resorption were accompanied with such treatment modality, in addition to its removable nature which is not favorable by many patients. Another recommendation to replace the missing teeth is the resin-bonded bridge.

    This study was conducted to compare between two self-tapping, self-drilling tapered one-piece implant designs used for immediate post-extraction placement with the immediate loading protocol. Materials and Methods: Ten patients (6 males and 4 females), with a mean age of 28.5 years (range 18-39 years) were included in this study. All selected patients had two or more maxillary unrestorable hopeless anterior or premolar teeth indicated for extraction. Each patient received two implants of different designs (The OsteoCare™ Midi and Maxi-Z implants) which were placed in fresh extraction sockets and immediately loaded

    Clinical evaluation of the OsteoCare Mini & Midi implants for immediate loading of mandibular overdentures

    This study evaluated the clinical performance of the new generation of OsteoCare Mini and Midi one-piece (ball type) implants for the support of mandibular overdentures. Forty-two (24 Mini and 18 Midi) implants were placed in the interforaminal region of the mandibles of 10 patients. A transmucosal flapless procedure was used to place the implants and followed by immediate delivery of the overdenture. The patients were evaluated at six-month intervals for a follow-up period of 18-24 months.

    The concept of immediate loading by using titanium one-piece implant can be preferred to the two stage technique due to the ability of the immediate loading to eliminate the need for the healing period to restore the implant. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of adding platelet-rich plasma with immediately loaded self-tapping dental implant (OsteoCare Maxi-Z one piece) placed in healed bony sites (posterior maxillary area) on accelerating the rate of osseointegration or reducing the crestal bone resorption around these implants through the first three months follow-up period.
